Nurse Recognition & Scholarship Program
Text Box: The Palmetto Gold Nurse Recognition and Scholarship Program is South Carolina's only statewide recognition program for nurses from all practice settings. This premier recognition program selects the top 100 nurses from those who have been nominated to honor during a formal awards ceremony. With over 45,000 nurses licensed in the state, it is a high privilege and honor to be selected as a Palmetto Gold recipient. These nurses have demonstrated excellence in practice and commitment to the profession and have earned the respect of colleagues and peers. The Palmetto Gold Scholarship Program is the single largest scholarship program for undergraduate student nurses in the state. A $1,000.00 scholarship is awarded each year to recipients from each of the 23 approved registered nurse programs in the state. In the past 9 years over $170,000 in scholarships have been disseminated and an endowment of over $100,000 has been created to sustain the scholarships over time. In 2007 we began funding a graduate nurse scholarship in honor of Renatta Loquist. Our goal is to double the number of scholarships awarded and to increase the size of the awards over the next several years. This program is one way to combat the serious nursing shortage facing our state. .
